Welcome!
I'm Emily Sun Li, a junior at Emory University studying Creative Writing/English and Environmental Science.
In Fall 2015, I had the pleasure of taking Race, Gender, and Making Media with Dr. Heather Julien. This website serves as my final project. Through it, I hope to educate viewers on media coverage of immigration as a moral panic, in order to inspire increased understanding of the historical and social context behind this modern hot-button issue and encourage others to apply the same critical analysis of cultural portrayals of moral panic.
Originally, as I began my research, I wanted to analyze and discuss moral panics in general. However, as I started to conduct my case study of immigration, I realized that focusing on one issue would help to illuminate the same concept while providing more relevant and clear detail and context for my audience. In addition, I found that that moral panics, while usually exaggerated and artificial in certain aspects, can also contain elements of truth. I learned so much throughout the process of creating this site and I hope you felt the same way!
When I'm not taking the most interesting courses ever, I'm editing my novels, writing news for The Emory Wheel or drinking way too much boba. Check out my other work below! If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thanks for visiting!
